Chip Wirth, Maison Fortune Orphanage President, has heard from Jean Louis, Director at the orphanage. His email states, " Hinche is fine. I mean we felt the earth the earthquake but there was no damage, Rilley (Chip's son) is with me, He is doing fine. So I will see you soon if you decide to come back to Hinche, otherwise I will see you in Febuary. Jean-Louis"
Chip also spoke to Jean Louis a short time ago. Jean Louis reiterated that everyone is fine. It was like being on a boat at sea but otherwise nothing. Chip and Jean Louis agreed that this will have significant impact on the orphanage despite no physical damage. Food will be in short supply on the island as will gasoline and diesel. And there could be a outflow of survivors away from Port-O-Prince that could reach Hinche.
This is good news for the children, staff and volunteers at the orphanage but still a terrible tragedy for all those in Port-o-Prince. What can we do? At present, keep everyone in your prayers. Also watch the Foundation website, http://www.mfofoundation.org. We will post updates as information becomes available.
